| Amazonia is the confirmed location for Survivor 6 says multiple
sources and Tropical Nature Travel.
The Production Camp is located at the Ariau Towers Hotel reserved October 22 through
December 22. Space Imaging's
satellite image taken last year of the Ariau complex shows the stilt buildings in the rain
forest canopy connected by catwalks.
Some of the filming was near Terra Verde resort in the La Floresta da Vida reserve. |
Sources say Challenge Beach is located on the Rio Negro's Praia Grande (Great Beach). Rumors say Tribal Council is deep in the Amazonia rain forest on the Rio Acajatuba near Nossa Senhora (Acajatube Village). The Rio Negro is a beautiful, sweetwater river with few mosquitos, and populated with piranha and rose-colored freshwater dolphins. Mark Burnett has mentioned South America and the Amazon River as possible locations for Survivor. South America is the only equatorial continent Survivor hasn't filmed on. |

shows next Survivor camp location 10/1/2002 The Amazon rainforest is
the location for the sixth installment of Survivor says John Melton, of Tropical Nature
Travel, who just returned from Manaus on a fact-finding trip for Survivor Maps. "It
seems to be a pretty open 'secret' there that Survivor is planning to film here using the Ariau Towers Hotel for their base camp and filming on
the Rio Negro. Filming staff are arriving in Manaus; every thing is setting up." "Finding the location is just the first step for me," said Dan Bollinger of Survivor Maps. "Mapping it comes next. Topological maps of Amazonia are difficult to obtain. Instead, I went to Space Imaging and searched their online satellite image archives. I was surprised to find high-resolution images of the Ariau Towers Hotel area. In about ten minutes I selected an image and called in my purchase order." "Space Imaging provides high-quality, map-accurate imagery from our IKONOS satellite, said Mark Brender of Space Imaging. "While most of our customers are from state and local governments and the forestry and environmental communities, we are pleased that our space-based imagery is useful for Survivor sleuths like Dan Bollinger so he can better see the world." "This is the first time the crew will sleep in hotel room on real beds. After the rigors of Thailand, this will feel luxurious," said Bollinger "The hotel is a collection of buildings on stilts high in the Amazon rain forest canopy connected by catwalks and located at the juncture of the Rio Negro and Ariau Creek, about 40 km west of Manaus. Ive heard the entire resort is reserved for Survivor production between September 22nd through December 22nd." "It appears that the owner of Ariau Towers has secured the rights to some land in the area," said Melton. "Already rumors are flying that Survivor doesn't want to pay the extortionate amount that Ariaua is trying to charge ($500,000 per month was mentioned), and there are rumblings from the local translators who are refusing to work for the daily rate that is being offered." Other sources say the two Tribal Camps will be located on the Rio Negro's Praia Grande (Great Beach) west of Ariau. The beach is 4-5 kilometers long. Annual flooding washes the white sand clean. The Rio Negro, a major tributary of the Rio Amazon, is 10 miles wide at this point and is known for its piranha and rose-colored freshwater dolphins. Tribal Council is rumored to be deep in the Amazonia rain forest on the Rio Acajatuba near the small village of Nossa Senhora de Perpétuo Socorro (also called Acajatuba Village) founded in 1977 by then sixteen year-old native Marlene Alves de Costa. This is the third time Survivor has considered the Amazon as a filming location. South America is the only equatorial continent that the show hasnt filmed on. Reportedly, negotiations between Survivor Entertainment Group and Ariau Towers Hotel had stalled at times over leasing charges. Not the Philippines - around the globe Philippine President Gloria Arroyo said on Wednesday that the hit U.S. television show, Survivor, will hold its next challenge in an undisclosed location on Siquijor Island. Survivor Maps contacted Philippine Tourism Minister Richard Gordons office who said, "Secretary Gordon, during his trip to the United States, met with producers of the Survivor Series who intimated interest in filming episodes in the Philippines. On another note, a Japanese crew is filming its version of Survivor in Siquijor Island since September 1st. Space Imaging and Survivor Maps made television history last year when they published an IKONOS 1-meter resolution satellite image of the Survivor: Africa camps collected during filming. This is the fourth Survivor location Survivor Maps has discovered. |

Secret in Amazonia 8/30/02 - The secret location for Survivor: 6 continues to
reveal itself before Survivor: Thailand has a chance to air. A third report puts the
upcoming Survivor: 6 in Brazil on the Rio Negro near Manaus. A Brazilian source says
"...an American television film crew has reserved Ariau Amazon Towers resort from
September through December." This encompasses the filming schedule, according to the
contestant application. "The lodge is a big structure (almost 300 rooms, with restaurants, electric power, and internet access) close to the primitive forest, so I guess it would be easy to keep the staff well accommodated, but close to the "poor" survivors! The staff is all local people," says our source, speculating on the advantages of using the resort as a Survivor base camp. Ariaú Amazon Towers is located 60km west of Manaus, at the source of the Anavilhanas Archipelago - the biggest sweet water archipelago of the world. Manaus is served by its International Airport and deep water port, very useful for the transportation of crew and gear. In Amazonia there are only two seasons: the rainy season from December to June (ranging from 78°F to 86°F) and the dry season from July to November (ranging from 78°F to 104°). |

in the Amazon? 8/27/02 - Two different sources "in the
know" have told Dan Bollinger and 'Wezzie' of Survivor Maps that the location for
Survivor 6 will be in Brazil. The unconfirmed location could mean filming along the
Amazon River and remote rainforest locale. Neither source could pinpoint the film
site. In an earlier interview, Mark Burnett stated that he was looking at locations in Central and Southern America. South America was also a possible site for Survivor 4 and 5. It is also the only equatorial continent the show hasn't filmed on. |
